thanks for the link. yeah I have a general idea of the tricks, conventions and techniques when it comes to mixing, but I seem to always dislike mixing the low end <200Hz. I'm not using great headphones to mix so probably it's frequency spectrum is causing me to overcompensate the low or high frequency bands

Mastering is the real dark art. Bass and drums? I think an EDM artist can give you lots of tid-bits, but I do know that people tend to like sidechaining:
